Boughali Holds Bilateral Talks with Counterparts from Djibouti, Zimbabwe, and Azerbaijan in Turkey

ISTANBUL – The Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Mr. Ibrahim Boughali, held a series of bilateral meetings today, Thursday, April 16, 2026, with his counterparts from Djibouti, Zimbabwe, and Azerbaijan. These meetings took place on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey.

Strengthening Ties with Djibouti During his meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Djibouti, Mr. Dileita Mohamed Dileita, both sides reviewed the state of bilateral relations, particularly regarding parliamentary cooperation. The two parties explored ways to enhance this partnership to serve common interests, emphasizing the importance of intensifying coordination and consultation to bolster the bonds of friendship across various sectors.

Deepening Relations with Zimbabwe In another bilateral meeting, Mr. Boughali met with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Zimbabwe, Mr. Jacob Mudenda. Mr. Boughali welcomed his counterpart, stressing the depth and resilience of the relations between the two friendly nations. Both speakers underlined the importance of joint cooperation in the parliamentary field and discussed developing bilateral ties for the benefit of both peoples.

Expanding Cooperation with Azerbaijan Mr. Boughali also held talks with the Speaker of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova. He praised the existing bilateral relations and expressed his commitment to expanding them. He highlighted the significance of parliamentary diplomacy through the exchange of visits and expertise, noting that the meeting was a valuable opportunity to exchange views on issues of mutual interest.

Official Delegation The meetings were attended by a joint delegation from the People’s National Assembly and the Council of the Nation, including:

• Mr. Mounder Bouden: Vice-President of the APN and permanent member of the IPU.

• Mr. Mohamed Anouar Bouchouit: Vice-President of the APN and permanent member of the IPU.

• Mr. Fateh Boutbig: Member of the Council of the Nation.

• Mr. Kamal Khelifati: Member of the Council of the Nation and permanent member of the IPU.

• Mr. Slim Djaalal: Secretary-General of the People’s National Assembly.
