Algeria Reaffirms Commitment to Paris Climate Agreement Goals
Algeria has renewed its commitment to the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement, reaffirming its intention to pursue sustainable, inclusive and low-carbon development.
The pledge was highlighted during a government meeting chaired on Wednesday by Prime Minister Seifi Ghrieb, where ministers reviewed Algeria’s nationally determined contribution under the global climate accord.
According to a government statement, officials stressed that Algeria is among the countries most exposed to the effects of climate change, particularly desertification, water scarcity and recurring droughts.
In response, the government said it remains committed to implementing policies aimed at balancing economic development with environmental sustainability, while strengthening resilience to climate-related risks.
The meeting also reviewed measures to protect agricultural and forest land, as well as a roadmap to develop Algeria’s call center industry and create new employment opportunities by 2027.
