PM Reaffirms commitment to reviving recovered industrial units across Algeria

ALGIERS – Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb reaffirmed that all recovered industrial units across Algeria will be progressively brought back into operation, in line with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to reintegrate them into the national economy and transform them into productive projects that generate wealth and employment.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of a brake pad and accessories manufacturing plant in Réghaïa, Algiers, Ghrieb said the government would continue reviving recovered industrial facilities, following the reopening of units in M’sila, Batna and Réghaïa, with additional projects set to be launched in the coming months.

“We are working quietly but effectively. Soon, we will be in Batna, Tissemsilt and other regions to relaunch more recovered industrial projects,” the Prime Minister said.

The newly commissioned plant, operated by the Eastern Maintenance Company, a subsidiary of the Algerian Cement Industrial Group (GICA), specializes in manufacturing brake pads and accessories for light and heavy vehicles. With an annual production capacity of 1.5 million brake pads, the facility is expected to meet between 40% and 50% of domestic demand, reduce imports, increase local integration and support future exports.

Highlighting the strategic importance of the project, Ghrieb stressed that strict quality standards would be applied throughout the production process, while also calling on former employees to return to their jobs.

The Prime Minister also urged economic operators to invest in the local production of automotive spare parts, assuring them of full government support through the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI), with priority given to projects in this strategic sector.

During the visit, two industrial cooperation agreements were signed between the Eastern Maintenance Company and Stellantis Algeria, and between the company and Idenet SARL Algeria. The agreements are aimed at strengthening industrial partnerships, promoting national subcontracting and enhancing the competitiveness of Algerian-made products.
