Spanish coach Rafael Benítez has reportedly emerged as the leading candidate for the role. However, negotiations could be complicated by his high salary demands, which may pose a significant obstacle for the federation.

Several other experienced names remain under consideration, including Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz, as well as Roberto Martínez and José Peseiro. The latter is seen as a particularly strong contender, given his extensive experience in African football. Nevertheless, his current contract with Saudi club Al-Ula, which runs until 2027, could hinder any immediate move.

Whoever takes charge will face a tight timeline, with preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers set to begin soon. Algeria is scheduled to take on Zambia and Burundi, while an additional friendly match is expected to be arranged during the upcoming international window.

Meanwhile, the FAF’s decision to appoint an assistant coach before naming a head coach has raised questions, as it is traditionally the responsibility of the head coach to select their own technical staff.
